Artnav

The Terra Foundation for American Art wanted to create an experience that brought historical context to the foreground of digital art viewing.

I worked closely with their director of marketing & communications, chief curator, art historians, and art preservationists to develop a platform for being able to deep zoom artwork, attach historical facts to the “digital surface” of the artwork, and view this as an experiential “art map” on the web. We explored different approaches in capturing art work with very high resolution photography in tiled format.

I designed and built an authoring platform that made it possible for them to generate zoomable artworks, pin historical facts to x,y coordinates on the map, and publish these maps for public viewing.

My contribution:

  • Design & Creative Direction

  • Prototyping

  • Full-stack web development
