In/Not-in His Words is an experiment in generative literature that uses my late Grandpa’s story of immigration from Austria-Hungry to the U.S. (by way of a 13 year layover in Cuba) as a source text.

I wrote a script (Markov chain) to do some basic analysis of word occurrences and language patterns and generate more language from the same text corpus. Using this generated output, I acted as “editor,” coercing the resulting text into an entirely new narrative.

The result is a chapter-based book that blurs the line between poetry and pros, and re-expresses the thread of my family’s lineage.
